Biography

Hello, my name is Holly McQuithey! I am a new full-time faculty member in the Department of Biology. I have a strong background in cancer research and science education. Previously, I was a research associate at Henry Ford Pancreatic Cancer Center, where I researched specific mechanisms that govern chemotherapeutic resistance in pancreatic adenocarcinoma. I hold a Master of Science in Cancer Biology from Wayne State University School of Medicine and a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (Cytogenetics) from Eastern Michigan University.

My experience in cancer research, particularly in exploring the genetic mechanisms of pancreatic cancer and novel immunotherapy approaches, has shaped my approach to teaching. I bring a research-driven, inquiry-based mindset into the classroom, encouraging my students to think critically and engage deeply with biological concepts. As an educator, I am passionate about making biology accessible to all students, whether they're aspiring scientists or simply fulfilling a requirement. I design interactive, discussion-based courses that emphasize real-world applications and foster a love for lifelong learning. Beyond the classroom, I actively work to inspire young women and underrepresented groups to pursue careers in the sciences. I'm also a big fan of video games, building Lego sets, reading, and manicure nail art!
