Detroit Mercy Theatre Company (DMTC) students and faculty and staff participated in the Kennedy Center College Theater Festival held virtually this year.

Three students earned Certificates of Merit, all for work on the DMTC production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream:  Andrew Guay ’20, in Comedic Performance for his role as Bottom; Amelia Rose Glenn in Assistant Costume Design and Olivia Swad in Sound Design.

Five students competed in the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Competition and student Nina Carlson advanced to the semi-final round with her performance in DMTC’s production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Students also attended a variety of seminars on the diversification of acting and social justice.

“I enjoyed the KCACTF event and learned so much about theatre and what works for me,” said Jade Sibert, a theater student who attended the virtual conference. “I got a better understanding of how to perform and interpret Shakespeare. I got loose in some workshops and learned how to have fun in theatre as opposed to being super serious. I understood and learned how to set boundaries in theater and respect each other's bodies and performances. This festival was extremely inspiring and I am eager to join next year’s.”
