Stolen Vehicle & Attempts

Circumstances
The University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) Department of Public Safety issued this safety notice to make the community aware of a number of stolen vehicles and attempts in our community over the past week. Today the University of Detroit Mercy had a vehicle stolen from Parking Lot “M” at approximately 08:50AM. Officer at our control center observed a vehicle being pushed out of parking Lot “M” onto West bound MLK. Other DPS Officers were notified and the stolen vehicle alone with push vehicle where located and recovered by DPS. This method of Push Stealing has become more prevalent in recent months.

- Be aware of others in your surrounding area.
- Utilize the campus escort policy or travel with others when possible.
- Make an attempt to conduct business during hours of daylight.
- Have your keys in hand so you are ready to open the car and house doors immediately
- Be aware of your surroundings and others around you at all times.
- Limit the use of devices that distract you while you are walking (Ex. text message, iPods)
