University of Detroit Mercy selected for Boeing’s Systems Engineering Education Program

An aerial photograph of the Engineering Building in winter.University of Detroit Mercy’s College of Engineering & Science is one of six universities across the country chosen by Boeing to participate in a new initiative designed to shape the future of education in systems engineering.

The collaboration with Detroit Mercy’s Systems Engineering and Master of Product Development programs and Boeing’s Digital & Systems Engineering (D&SE) Functional Chief Engineer’s (FCE) Office is designed to enhance systems engineering education through active and continuous engagement with curriculum, industry use cases and collaborative learning opportunities.

“This partnership with Boeing represents a significant step forward in strengthening systems engineering education,” said Paul Spadafora, director of Professional Engineering Programs at University of Detroit Mercy. “We are excited to collaborate on initiatives that will bridge the gap between academia and industry, equipping our students with the knowledge and experience necessary to excel in the field.”

By working closely with Boeing, participating universities expect to gain valuable insights into critical industry skills and capabilities, ensuring students receive an education that aligns with evolving workforce needs.

In addition to UDM, the universities selected for this pilot include Colorado State, Cornell, University of Arizona, University of Alabama, Huntsville and a joint program of Florida A&M and Florida State.
