UDM and men's head basketball coach Mike Davis mutually agree to part ways
University of Detroit Mercy Director of Athletics Robert Vowels announced today that the University and head men’s basketball coach Mike Davis have mutually agreed to part ways effective immediately. Coach Davis recently completed his sixth year at UDM finishing with a record of 1-31 this season, 60-119 overall, 44-65 in conference play and 412-360 for his entire career as head coach.
“On behalf of our entire community, I want to thank Coach Davis and his family for their dedication, commitment and competitive spirit he brought to Detroit Mercy,” Vowels said. “We wish the best for him and his family as his coaching journey continues.”
The University will begin the search for a new coach immediately and has established a search advisory committee comprised of a diverse group of alumni, former Titan student-athletes, donors and supporters, faculty, staff, and University leaders. Supporting the University’s search efforts is Collegiate Sports Associates (CSA), a leading college athletics executive search firm.
CSA will begin assisting the committee in identifying and generating qualified prospective candidates.
“These colleagues and our search firm partner are committed to and focused on developing a process that will yield the best fit for UDM,” Vowels said, adding that UDM is taking this approach in accordance with President Donald Taylor’s commitment to identify and consider a diverse and inclusive process to build a strong pool of candidates.
“It’s essential that UDM has a strong and competitive men’s basketball program for the city of Detroit, the University community, our alumni, supporters and friends and most of all for our student-athletes,” Taylor said. “We all share pride in our athletic programs as representative of the University and we will work together to earn their interest and support in the program moving forward.”
The University will decline further comment on the search process until its completion which is anticipated by the conclusion of the college basketball postseason in early April.
