The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

In agreement with our Jesuit and Mercy values, the University of Detroit Mercy values the individual lives of our campus community and those in our greater community. We believe that when we are working together, we can have a more significant impact on the world. We want to grow as a community, understanding how our unique identities make up one whole. As Titans, we seek to understand ourselves so that we may better serve those around us.

Mission

The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI) promotes inclusion, justice, equity, and belonging among the Detroit Mercy community and the greater Detroit community. ODEI cultivates a campus environment that leans into our Jesuit and Mercy charisms of social responsibility, justice, and care for all by preparing the students to engage with each other and the community using civility. While also preparing students to be good global citizens. ODEI uses education and mentorship to empower the Detroit Mercy community to join the charge in creating a more just and inclusive campus community.

Vision

The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will lead and support initiatives that educate the university community in areas regarding identity and cultural background through regular workshops and training sessions. These initiatives will have a direct positive impact on the retention of faculty, staff, and students. ODEI will also celebrate the varying identities of individuals that show up on our campus through educational and celebratory programming. The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will guide the campus community in diversity efforts that will aid the University of Detroit Mercy in becoming the lead university in community engagement and diversity efforts in the city of Detroit.
