    When are my rental books due?

    Rental books for the winter term were due back by June 15—please ship them back today!  Rental books for the summer semester are due August 6. 

    How do I return my rental books?

    Super simple!  We are asking that you please ship your books to us.  For shipping within the United States, please click here to request a return label. (For Law Students click here to request a return label for domestic shipping)

    Can I order books to ship to me directly?

    Yes!  This year, order your books and course materials from our website and have them conveniently shipped directly to wherever you will be for the fall semester.  Get rentals, used books, access codes, new books, and the best deals fast through this method!

    When can I shop in-store?

    The McNichols Detroit Mercy Bookstore will open to the Detroit Mercy Community on Monday, August 3.  Due to the switch in content delivery and the need to remain fluid, there will be a limited supply of books available in-store.  We strongly encourage students to order their books from our website.  We will continue to offer your official Detroit Mercy merchandise, snacks, beverages, school supplies, trade books, and much more.


    Computer Labs Access

    All four computer labs will be open during fall term for both class reservation and drop-in usage. Facilities will be re-designing these on-campus computer lab spaces with social distancing.

    The Dining Experience

    We are actively preparing our dining employees and our facilities for the new protocols this semester.  We will be open for meal times. When you come to dine with us this fall, please expect the following:

    • Metz Dining employees wearing masks and gloves will serve meals in disposable containers.
    • Seating in dining areas on McNichols will follow social distancing guidelines. We are exploring how to offer additional seating options and will share updates in future communications.

    The Loft:

    Currently closed.  The Loft will reopen with the start of the board program for breakfast hours until dinner hours. Specific times TBD.

    Fitness Center

    Student Fitness Center  is temporarily closed.

    The Fitness Center plans to open in August. Our programming, equipment, and available services will be modified to ensure the safety of our participants.  Hours are yet to be determined.


    ITS Helpdesk

    The ITS Helpdesk is open on campus as well as  by appointment. 

    Monday - Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

    Hours will expand at the end of Summer hours.


    McNichols Campus Library & Instructional Design Studio

    The McNichols Campus Library is temporarily closed. The McNichols Campus Library will be open to registered students and employees this Fall.

    Continued Online Availability

    Online library assistance is available 24/7. Please work with your librarian for research assistance and information literacy instruction. Library faculty are working to keep you up-to-date with library help, various updates, and fact-checking resources.

    Full details on services will be forthcoming. We expect to offer our usual services, with adjustments to allow time for cleaning. These services include in-person assistance, study space, book and DVD checkout, interlibrary loan, computer use, and printing. In addition to The Bookmark Cafe, the vending area on the Lower Level will be available throughout the day.

    For socially distanced, individual study space, we will be able to accommodate approximately 50 students on the 1st floor, and 50 students in the 2nd floor Bargman Room. We are uncertain whether this will be more than we need or will require a waiting list - we're working on plans for both scenarios.

    In addition to our in-person services, the majority of our collections are available online 24/7, and we will continue to offer 24/7 virtual reference assistance in partnership with our Jesuit library colleagues. We are exploring an online celebration of Constitution Day and a couple of other online events.

    Psychology and Counseling Clinics

    The Psychology Clinic and the Counseling Clinic are closed until further notice.


    The Psychology Clinic will offer teletherapy services by phone or HIPAA compliant electronic means.

    Residence Halls

    Residence Life

    We intend to open the Residence Halls with normal occupancy. We plan to set aside rooms to quarantine individuals suspected or confirmed of having COVID-19 if needed.

    Room Selection

    Current students will select their rooms the week of June 22nd. We intend to complete room assignments for First Year students around the beginning of July.


    Residence Life has extended cancellations without fees from May 31st to June 30th. If students wish to cancel, they should contact Residence Life and submit a request for release form

    Student move-in

    New student move-in will take place over a few days during assigned time blocks in the morning and afternoon from Sunday, Aug. 16, through Tuesday, Aug. 18.

    Likewise, move-in for returning students will occur Friday, Aug. 21, through Sunday, Aug. 23, during assigned move-in times.

    Residential students should expect to receive their move-in assignments no later than the middle of July.

    Advising and registration started March 16 and students and faculty should interact with each other in a mutually agreeable manner, e.g., email, chat, telephone etc.

    Student Success Center and Student Disability & Accessibility Support Services

     The SSC has created an online platform for you to access free tutoring via Blackboard. Tutors have their own "classroom" allowing you opportunities for a video conference tutoring session.     Aug. 17: Student Success Center to open

    We will be providing services both online and in-person, and we plan to work with students individually on their preference. 

    Testing Center hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to close, and due to our limited space, we will most likely be by appointment only. We are also going to limit testing to be for students with accommodations and emergency situations only, but we will open it up more based on how things go in the beginning of the semester. I will be sending an email closer to the start of the fall semester to inform faculty. 

    TRIO Student Support Services

    Titan Information Center, Parking & ID Office

    Titan Information Center

    Temporarily Closed

    Plans for the opening of the Titan Information Center on the McNichols Campus  will be sent via email with instructions after Monday, August 3, 2020.  The instructions will provide new information on how we will move forward in processing Student and Employee Parking Permits, ID Cards, and Validation Stickers.  We will also assist in coordinating processes with the School of Dentistry and the School of Law.

    Spaces to sit, read, study, reflect, chat with others. A place to warm up your meal (microwave) and have a cup of free coffee.


    Writing Center

    We are continuing our online-only writing consultations throughout the summer. 

    Students can book individual, half-hour appointments two weeks in advance.

    Online hours of operation from through Aug 5:

    Mondays & Wednesdays: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
    Tuesdays & Thursdays: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    Fridays: 10 a.m. - 3p.m.

    For proof of attendance, students should screen shot the last part of the online chat and provide that directly to faculty.   

    We can assist students with 

    • reading comprehension,
    • critical thinking,
    • source documentation, 
    • researching, 
    • drafting, 
    • revising/editing,
    • and improving grammar/punctuation.

    TWC's consultants can also work with students to ensure they have accomplished the goals of their assignments. 

    Graduate students are encouraged to make frequent appointments with us over a committed period of time for high-stakes writing projects. 

Building Access on McNichols Campus

As the University community continues to plan for a phased return to campus, the Facilities, Safety and Health Work Group of the COVID-19 Task Force has developed a Guide for the Return to the Workplace to assist colleges and department leaders in considering guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

Per the above guide, we are still in Phase I of return.  All supervisors who have employees who are part of the critical infrastructure workforce (essential) and must come to campus are required to complete the attached COVID-19 Campus Access Listing form and e-mail it to the addresses provided on the form. Anyone who will be approved for this, will receive a letter from Public Safety to keep with them for traveling to and from campus.

Online classes

Detroit Mercy conducts online sessions using Blackboard Collaborate. Collaborate is a web-conferencing tool built specifically for education. It uses video chat, application sharing and more to create an immersive online classroom experience. 

Most clinical experiences have been suspended and/or students are being provided with educational alternatives. College and School Deans and faculty may be sending out directives for clinicals, externships, internships, etc. If you have a question about these, please contact your College or School dean's office. 


Campus is open to essential personnel. Employees may be telecommuting remotely at this time and only available via phone and email at this time.

Off-Site / Off-Campus

Off site courses will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
