    Horizons Retreat Information and Registration

Our Horizons Retreat is a two-night retreat designed to ease students into the transition of college life.  Students will meet other new students, and be assigned into a small group for discussion, and various team-building activities while large group activities involve hearing from veteran students about how they managed the transition from high school to college, and what helped them to make friends, and to feel at ease with entering college.  It's a great opportunity to start the semester with a few friends that you make on the retreat, and you get to move in to your dorm room a day early.

Click here to register for Horizons Retreat.   Please submit your $75.00 payment as soon as possible to our Ministry Office cash or check in the Student Center across from the bookstore (credit cards are accepted only at the Student Accounting/Cashier Office on the Ground Floor of the Fisher Building). Checks can be made out to "University of Detroit Mercy." Payments can be sent to:

Memo: Horizons Retreat - Name of Student

    What is Horizons?
An two-night overnight experience for incoming students to build community with their first-year and current students, hear and share about the challenges and joys of college life, reflect on where God is in the transition process, and be a part of a Companions Group that will meet throughout their first semester at Detroit Mercy. Students of all faith traditions are welcome! The retreat includes student talks, small group reflection, team-building experiences, interfaith prayer experiences, and free time.

Where is Horizons going to be and how are we getting there?
Horizons will be held in the Irish Hills in Brooklyn, MI and it's about a 90 minute drive from campus.

Early move-in for residential students will begin at 9:00 AM on Sunday, August 20. Please check-in at Shiple Residence Hall located on the south end of campus. Student leaders will be available to help check in, get your room keys, and move-in your belongings. Lunch will be available at noon on the ground floor of Shiple Residence Hall for students only (parents are asked to leave by noon). There will be signs and student leaders to direct you.

If you are not living on campus, please arrive at Shiple Hall by 11:45 AM on Sunday, August 20 and join us for lunch on the ground floor of the hall (lunch is for students only). There will be signs and student leaders to direct you.

RETURN from Retreat: By 1:00 p.m. on August 22nd in time to begin PTV/Orientation activities.

*Please note there will NOT be a MASS on Sunday at the retreat. We invite you to join our neighbors at Gesu Parish, across the street from campus, for the 8:00 AM Sunday Mass. The Move-In Day Mass is held on Tuesday at 4:00 PM in the St. Ignatius Chapel in the Commerce & Finance Building for all in-coming students and their families (before the picnic). If you would like to serve as a reader, gift-bearer or Eucharistic Minister for this Mass, please let your student leader know during the retreat.

If you are participating in a fall sport, please check with your coach that you do not have any conflicts.

    What to bring:
A sleeping bag (or a set of single sheets/blanket) for your bed and a pillow
