- The 2018 Alumni Achievement Spirit Awards will honor an accomplished alumnus from each Detroit Mercy college/school at a special reception and dinner in the Student Union Ballroom. These honorees are leaders in their fields and have made their marks in other ways, too. See the Spirit Awards website for more information.

Rename the Café a La Carte: Final vote

Despite the weather, Spring Blowout was a hit

Fraternity raises money to support family of fallen Detroit police officer
Kappa Delta Rho raised more than $1,000 at its Pizza with a Purpose fundraiser, in support of the family of deceased Detroit Police Officer Glenn Doss, Jr. KDR’s homemade, wood-fired pizza helped them make the third largest donation on the family’s GoFundMe page. Thank you to everyone who came out in support of an admirable cause.
Detroit Mercy Law alumna Judge Denise Langford Morris to receive Mary S. Coleman award
Oakland County Circuit Judge and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law alumna Denise K. Langford Morris ’82 will receive the Mary S. Coleman award at the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) Centennial Gala on Friday, April 27, at Detroit’s Colony Club. Read the full story online.
University research highlighted at Celebration of Scholarly Achievement
The annual Celebration of Scholarly Achievement, April 17, recognized faculty, staff and student research publications, posters and other creative projects in more than 100 academic journals, books and articles. One presentation, by Associate Professor of Architecture Allegra Pitera, highlighted urban cityscapes and the relationship between ground and sky through artistic light boxes (see photo below). Final call: Nominations due for Agere ex Missione Award
The Agere ex Missione Award is presented annually to two individuals: A faculty member and either a staff member or administrator who exemplify the mission of University of Detroit Mercy. This award is presented at the President's Convocation, on Thursday, Aug. 16. Specific criteria for the award and additional information can be found online under the accordion Mission Leadership Awards. Nomination letters should be submitted to Judy Mouch, RSM, co-chair of the Mission Effectiveness Team, at mouchj1@udmercy.edu by Tuesday, May 1.

Associate Professor of Law Khaled A. Beydoun was recently featured for a variety of topics on several radio programs and stations, including NPR Radio, WBEZ-FM Chicago, as well as 89.7 WGBH Boston.
College of Engineering & Science Chemistry Storeroom Manager Meghann Murray will be a judge at the FIRST Innovation Faire & Scholarship Row, a Maker Faire-inspired event in Detroit featuring a number technology demonstrations and hands-on activities for all ages. The College of Engineering & Science will have a table set up at the faire as well.
Professor of Philosophy and CLASA Director Gail Presbey and her Modern Latin America students have created several displays, located in the first floor of the McNichols Campus Library, that highlight the recent history of Central American countries using items from the Carney archive. Take a study break from finals, and stop by the library to see the interesting showcases.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Pamela Zarkowski presented "Cura Personalis: Care for the Entire Person in Dentistry" at the Beyond Flexner meeting held in Atlanta, April 10. Her presentation was part of the "Patients and Partners: Building Collaboratives" panel.
