Climate Change and Sustainability Seminar, March 23

Resolution Reboot revs up

University Recreation has launched its second annual Resolution Reboot program, running March 20 through April 19. Each week, 15 activities will be posted on social media to complete; each activity earns points. The student and faculty with the highest scores will each win a pair of Bluedio Bluetooth Headphones. Winners will be announced at De-Stress Fest on Thursday, April 20. #URecReboot

Shizuoka Academy visits Detroit Mercy

25 students from Shizuoka Academy of Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan visited Detroit Mercy's McNichols Campus to discuss food, festivals, technology and culture as part of the Kakehashi Project, March 16. The Kakehashi Project is a youth exchange program, promoted by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to promote an international understanding and interest in Japanese culture.

Architecture Lecture Series: Lorcan O'Herlihy

As part of its 2016-17 Lecture Series, Detroit Mercy School of Architecture (SOA) welcomes Lorcan O'Herlihy of Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects (Los Angeles, Calif.) on Wednesday, March 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the Warren Loranger Architecture Building's Genevieve Fisk Loranger Architecture Center. Upcoming CLASA events

On Wednesday, March 29 CLASA hosts Director of the Mexico Solidarity Network Tony Nelson and Organizer with the Tlanezi Calli Housing Cooperative of Mexico City Sergio Pacheco who will speak on "Homes for People, Not for Profit!" The talk will begin at 4 p.m. in Room 139 of the Commerce & Finance Building. See the event flyer for more information.

On Thursday, March 30 CLASA will also host two talks with New York Center for Court Innovation Youth Justice Board Program Associate Mary Walle, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Room 317 of the Jane & Walter O. Briggs Building. Walle will present her research on the history of the Sanctuary movement in Detroit. Detroit Mercy students will create an exhibit of Carney archives materials related to her topic; the exhibit will be on display in the McNichols Campus Library Lobby beginning March 30 through April. Cascade web training continues

Holi at Detroit Mercy

Detroit Mercy students let their true colors fly at the Holi celebration, March 16. Holi is a Hindu spring festival in India and Nepal, also known as the Festival of Colors. This event signifies the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring.

"Gender, Inequality, Boundaries" video exhibit

Architecture and Digital Media Studies students will present a video exhibit titled "Us and Them: Gender, Inequality, Boundaries," on Friday, March 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Grounds Coffeehaus. Issues of race, class, sexual orientation, power, subordination and their connection with diverse forms of discriminations are the central focus of video installations. The exhibit is funded through the Women and Gender Studies teaching grant. See the event page for more information.

Detroit Mercy Day of Service, April 1

Join fellow Detroit Mercy students and alumni in a morning of volunteer work at local parks and gardens around our community on Saturday, April 1. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to all volunteers. Please visit the Day of Service web page for more information and to RSVP.

Celebration of Scholarly Achievement photos

The annual Celebration of Scholarly Achievement highlights Detroit Mercy faculty and student posters, non-print media, books, book chapters, journal articles and student awards. Each year, the University prints a booklet detailing the scholarship presented, which is distributed to faculty, staff, administrators, the Board of Trustees and our sponsors.

All faculty, staff and administrators are invited to submit a campus photo for consideration by Friday, March 31. Upload your submission to University OneDrive and share it with caldwecr@udmercy.edu. Instructions for uploading and sharing files on University OneDrive can be found online.

Ta-Nehisi Coates

Detroit Mercy welcomes Ta-Nehisi Coates, April 4

University of Detroit Mercy will welcome author, journalist, educator and National Book Award winner Ta-Nehisi Coates on Tuesday, April 4 in Calihan Hall on the McNichols Campus. He will deliver a talk entitled "Between the World and Me," based on his award-winning book of the same name, at 6:30 p.m. Admission for his talk is $10 to the general public and free to all University of Detroit Mercy students and colleagues with I.D. 85th Slide Rule Dinner/Dance, April 8

The College of Engineering & Science's 85th Annual Slide Rule Dinner/Dance be Saturday, April 8 from 6 p.m. to midnight at DTE Headquarters, 1 Energy Plaza in Detroit. The Slide Rule Dinner is the highlight of the year for E&S students and alumni who have contributed to the success of the College. Tickets must be purchased before Tuesday, March 28.
