November 05, 2019

A Detroit Mercy student shakes hands with a veteran.Veterans Day is Nov. 11, 2019. Detroit Mercy offers a sincere thank you to all our veterans and active duty military service personnel for their commitment and sacrifice in helping to support freedom around the world.

In honor and recognition of Veterans Day, Detroit Mercy will host a Veterans Pinning ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. This special event is free and open to the public. Please join the University community in honoring and giving thanks to all of our military service personnel who have sacrificed in support of our country and our freedom.

This event is also a compelling opportunity for each veteran to share part of his or her story with the Detroit Mercy community. The University is honored to host members of the Vietnam Veterans of America (Detroit) Chapter 9, Michigan Veterans Foundation and Detroit VA Medical Center. Current students from the University and Gesu Catholic School will also honor veterans during the ceremony.

Speakers for this event are as follows:

  • Tanner Beck, Army Health Care Recruiter.
  • Thomas Armstrong, Michigan Veterans Foundation, Director of Programs.
  • Paul Palazzolo, Vietnam Veterans of America (Detroit) Chapter 9.

Light refreshments will be available following the program. The Veterans Pinning ceremony is sponsored by the Student Life Office and Student Program Board. Individuals with disabilities who require accommodations may contact the Student Life Office at 313-993-1154.

On behalf of Detroit Mercy, thank you to all of our veterans and active duty military personnel for your courage and sacrifice.
