The College of Engineering & Science at University of Detroit Mercy is holding the STEPS Pre-College Summer Camp Program for high school girls during the next two weeks. This program is available at discounted rates to help expose greater numbers of girls to the science, technology and engineering fields. The Design Thinking summer program is free.

Camps run until July 21 at the McNichols Campus. Sign up online today. The following provides specific descriptions of programs:

STEPS (for high school girls)

The STEPS (Science, Technology, Engineering Preview Summer) program is a two-week commuter program that introduces and encourages high school girls to pursue degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. This summer program provides opportunities to broaden interest in STEM studies and careers through fun and engaging hands-on activities, cutting-edge and relevant experiences. The camp is $50.

Design Thinking

Design thinking is at the forefront of creative problem solving and brings new meaning to empathy, ideation, prototyping and human centered design.

Students learn to innovate everyday products and processes in an immersive, engaging and fun hands-on experience. Under the guidance of world-class engineering faculty, students work in teams on a daily creative exercise as well as learn and apply the principles of Design Thinking. Through field trip experiences, students see how innovation and creative principles improve past, present and future human life. This camp is FREE.
