University of Detroit Mercy Associate Professor of Nursing Linda Thiel was recently selected for a 2017 Global Center Faculty Fellowship from Loyola University Chicago and the institution’s John Felice Rome Center (JFRC).

Thiel will receive a four-week fellowship that will enable her to pursue individual research in Italy and interact with other professors and research colleagues, as well as serving as a guest lecturer. As a benefit of the Global Center affiliation, the fellowship provides opportunities for current faculty to broaden their research and scholarship activities in Italy; foster a deeper connection with JFRC; interact with professors and research colleagues; and contribute to the student learning experience on-site.

"I am pleased that Dr. Thiel was selected for this prestigious fellowship and will have an opportunity to interact with peers from other institutions in Italy,” said Pamela Zarkowski, J.D., M.P.H., provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “The University and her students will benefit from this wonderful academic experience.”

The award includes international air travel, private on-campus housing for one month (four consecutive weeks) in Rome, a workspace, and a partial meal plan. Fellows also have the option of taking an Italian language class, if desired, as a benefit of the fellowship. Faculty who wish to have family accompany them will be subject to additional fees for room and board. On average, more than $100,000 in scholarship funding is awarded each year.
