President Garibaldi shares his remarks regarding the Knight Foundation's Reimagining the Civic Commons Grant competition and recent $4 million initiative to revitalize the nearby Fitzgerald Neighborhood.

“At the President's Convocation on Aug. 16, I indicated that after Labor Day a major announcement would be made about the Knight Foundation's Reimagining the Civic Commons Grant competition. This morning that announcement is being made in Philadelphia. And as you will see in the following local and national articles and press releases announcing Detroit as one of the four cities selected for this $8 million award, University of Detroit Mercy is a major partner in this initiative. The other three cities receiving a grant are Akron, Chicago and Memphis. The proposal process began in November 2015 and the funds will primarily be used to improve the Fitzgerald neighborhood west of the campus. As the City of Detroit, the University and our partners finalize the implementation plans, I will share them with you over the next few months. Thank you to everyone who assisted in the development of this important proposal.”
